#AD Interlinings are at the heart of most sewing projects - from quilts and cushions to applique, embroidery, dressmaking, and everything in between. Vlieseline Ambassador & Author Laura Strutt talks about interlinings…
As a multi-disciplinary maker, Laura understands the importance of having just the right product for the project that you’re working on. “My creative work is exciting and varied, which allows me to not only work with lots of different sewing and crafting techniques but to also work with lots of different interlinings, waddings and tapes to achieve a range of results.” Vlieseline - formerly Vilene in the UK- is a household name. For over 70 years, Vlieseline has been developing and building a range that allows makers to achieve professional results from their home sewing and craft rooms. “Interlinings and waddings are often the unsung heroes of our sewing projects. Taking the time to learn the different properties of the range has been a fantastic opportunity to improve the quality of my makes and give me the confidence to work on more challenging designs.”
Vlieseline is constantly developing and expanding its range to ensure that home sewists have access to professional quality products and constantly work towards more environmentally-friendly and sustainably sourced products. “Like so many people, I try and to make more environmentally conscious decisions about the things in daily life and the impact it has on the world around me. With dressmaking and visible mending, sewing lends itself towards sustainability, and Vlieseline is developing products all the time to keep environmental factors considerations in mind.” One-third of the range is now made using recycled materials or blends, and there are lots of sustainable and natural options.
“Probably one of the most rewarding parts of sewing - or any creative craft - is the ongoing opportunity or learn, develop and grow. Vlieseline has a team of Ambassadors who are all experts in different aspects disciplines of sewing and textiles. Through live online sewing sessions, focused technique and product Q&As and in-person workshops, the creative community can tap into this incredible free creative resource.”
