2017
Don your glad rags, sew up a storm and party with like-minded sewists from across the country at the very first Dressmaker’s Ball. We’re also very proud to announce that we’re sponsors of this coveted event and guests can even enjoy a copy of Slatest issue in their goodie bag!
What is it?
“The idea came from a desire to attend a fun formal event and the opportunity to wear a gorgeous gown. Other than the occasional wedding, there isn’t often the chance to wear, never mind sew a ball gown and feel glamorous in the company of good friends. And, let’s be honest, we’ve all lusted over the stunning gowns worn on the red carpet and dreamed of sewing our own someday,” explains Freya and Sarah of Crafty Sew and So.
When is it?
The ball will take place on Friday 12th May 2017.
Where is it?
The Dressmaker’s Ball will be held at The City Rooms in the heart of Leicester city centre, making it easily accessible for anyone travelling from outside Leicester itself.
The dress code
In keeping with the beautiful Georgian building, the dress code for the evening is semi-formal so think floor length gowns and cocktail dresses. “We welcome and encourage you to sew your own dress, but if you don’t have the confidence or time to sew your own outfit, why not sew an accessory instead? It’s much more important that we have a good time together,” says Freya and Sarah.
You’ll be wined and dined…
Guests will be greeted from 7pm by a drinks reception and welcomed into the elegant dining room to mingle and meet other sewists. They will be able to enjoy a special cocktail aptly named ‘The Dressmaker’, which has been specially designed for the occasion as well as a wide variety of other drinks available to purchase at the bar. You can also enjoy the wonderful two-course meal on offer.
Enjoy a boogie…
The entertainment for the evening will be provided by the fantastic Gabby Young, and the band is sure to have us all dancing the night away. You can find Gabby on Instagram at @Gaberdashery where you can see all of the wonderful outfits and costumes she sews for the stage – we can’t wait to see what she whips up for the ball!
And there’s prizes to be won…
If you do happen to whip up a garment or accessory for the occasion then you could be in with the chance of winning one of the awards up for grabs. With six categories to choose from, there’s something for all stitchy levels.
