This whimsical bunny block can be stitched into a lovely set of cushions. Perfect for spring, they will brighten up any room you put them in, especially when made up in pretty florals like these Dashwood Studio Suffolk Garden prints we’ve used. Hop to it and stitch up a whole bunch in time for Easter!

Essentials
  1. Contrasting cotton prints, two, fat quarter of each
  2. Coordinating plain cotton, fat quarter
  3. Cushion pad, 34cm square
  4. Felt, scraps
  5. Embroidery thread
  6. Wide ribbon
  7. 2oz quilt wadding, 35cm square
Dimensions List
  1. Block: 31cm square
  2. Cushion: 34cm square
  3. Note: Use a 5mm seam allowance unless otherwise stated.

Sew a Block

    1. Cut two 11.5cm squares from two different prints. Draw a diagonal line on the back of the paler shade and pair up with the darker, right sides together. Sew either side with a 5mm seam allowance and cut along the line. Open out and press to make four half square triangles (HSTs). Repeat.

    2. Cut one 11cm square from the paler print and five 11cm squares of darker material. Arrange the squares and HSTs to create the bunny face, following the picture as a guide. Sew the squares right side together in strips of three, before stitching into one square panel, matching up the seams. Press and pin right side up over a square of wadding.

    3. Quilt around the face of the bunny using a small running stitch. Add a 6cm line of stitches down from the centre of the head and gather slightly. Print out the templates, and cut nose and eye shapes from coloured felt and sew them in place with tiny oversew stitches using two strands of embroidery thread. Add long stitches to each side of the nose to make whiskers. Tie a neat bow in ribbon, trim the ends and sew to the base of one ear.

Stitch a Pillow

    1. Trim the wadding to the same size as the block. Add a border of four 3cm x 34cm strips of printed fabric and trim accordingly.

    2. Cut one 16cm x 33cm and one 30cm x 33cm piece from plain cotton. Hem one long edge on each piece. Place over the cushion cover, right sides together with the longer piece overlapping the shorter one to create an envelope back.

    3. Sew all around the cover, clip the corners and turn out. Press the seams and topstitch 2mm from the edge before inserting a cushion pad.
