About this pattern

Stitch yourself and your family a collection of delightful stockings for Santa to fill on Christmas eve. Created from only three cotton fabrics, the design features an appliqué motif and stitching inspired by traditional Victorian paper doilies. Follow our colour scheme or pick your own to match the rest of your decs.

  • Fabric: cotton, beige, royal blue, 50cm of each; blue printed, 25cm
  • Bias binding: navy gingham, 1m

    Make a beige stocking

    1. Download the free templates, then print them out. Cut two stocking shapes from beige cotton, then one heel piece and one toe piece from blue cotton. From printed blue fabric, cut three small flowers and a 7cm x 14cm band, which will be used for the top of the stocking. Give one of the 14cm sides a scalloped edge, as shown.

    2. Fold the raw edges of the heel and toe pieces over to the wrong side by 3mm and press. Use an acid-free glue stick to coat the wrong side of the them and the top band pieces, and carefully adhere each of them into place on the right side of one beige fabric stocking piece, being sure to stick them down securely as this will prevent frayed edges. Allow to dry thoroughly.

    3. Lay the stocking front on a piece of plain paper and using straight or decorative stitches, machine or hand sew the detail onto the stocking, working with a beige thread on the blue fabric areas and a blue thread on the beige fabric areas. The paper will provide a firm support, which c
