Why not make a change from your usual tablecloth with a patchwork runner? While setting the scene for the perfect dinner party, the padded panels also protect your table from hot dishes brimming with tasty treats. It’s also a great way to use up any leftover fabric scraps from previous projects; just swap and change the pattern until you find the perfect colour combination.
Cut three 25cm squares of white cotton and tack onto squares of wadding, 5mm from the edge. Trim your fabric scraps into 5.5cm wide strips, then cut across each strip into rectangles of random length.
Mix up the rectangles and stitch end to end in a random order to make a continuous length of patchwork. Press seams open.
