    Create a Cameo

    1. Apply fusible webbing to the wrong sides of a scrap piece of patterned fabric and a piece of plain white. Use the largest oval die (657023) to cut a perfect shape from the white cotton. Use a soft pencil to sketch a cameo face inside the fabric oval and backstitch over the lines with a pastel coloured thread. Fuse the cameo to the centre of a lightly patterned fabric rectangle.

    2. Draw a larger oval onto the rectangle so the cameo sits in the centre. Cut the same shape from wadding and sandwich this between the printed cotton and a rectangle of felt. Backstitch the two layers together using the pencil line as a guide before cutting away the excess fabric with pinking shears to leave a serrated border.

    3. Quilt the cameo by sewing two lines around the centre oval with coordinating coloured embroidery thread. Take the webbing backed scrap fabric and die-cut several leaf designs from it (657017). Flip the fabric over so that some motifs are mirror images of others. Fuse the leaf shapes to the frame of the cameo and secure with tiny running stitches.
