Roadworks and tea are well-known aspects of British life and these coasters bring them together to add a quirky look to your afternoon tea spread. Don’t limit yourself to only tea-related coasters, why not experiment with other road signs and beverages?
Make a circle coaster
Iron fusible webbing to the back of white felt, red spotty felt and blue spotty fabric. Download and print the templates, place each shape onto the corresponding fabrics, draw around them and cut out.
Iron the white circle piece to the blue spotty fabric, then position the teacup in the middle. Iron on the blue ‘T’ on top of the cup. Using white sewing cotton, hand sew around the felt shapes close to the edge. Sew around the blue ‘T’ using blue cotton.
Sandwich insulated lining between the blue circle with the cup and the red spotty felt circle with the wrong sides facing together and iron in place.
Using sharp scissors, trim approximately 4mm away from the edge to neaten up all the layers. With four strands of blue embroidery thread, work around the edge of the disc using blanket stitch.
