Nothing signifies spring more than the appearance of fresh buds, blossom and sunshine, so celebrate the change of season with Carolyn Letten’s three appliquéd and stitched embroidery hoop pictures. They can be displayed together on a wall or used individually to brighten up a shelf or dressing table. Tidy up the back of your pictures by using running stitch around the edge of the remaining fabric, then pulling tightly to gather.
Stitch Sunshine
Download and print the templates. Cut a circle of yellow cotton fabric, 17.8cm in diameter, to fit a 10.2cm hoop. Use the template to trace the word onto white tissue paper. Snip out three flowers with their leaves leaving a narrow border of white and back with interfacing. Using the outer hoop as a guide, pin the flowers and leaves in place making sure to allow for the word ‘sunshine’.
Stitch them in place, and iron on reverse. Pin the tissue in place, sew over it twice, tear the tissue away and iron on the reverse. Mount your picture as before, pulling taut and trimming. Add lace flowers and a little glitter glue to highlight.
Sew Hello Spring
Download and print the templates. Cut a circle of bright green cotton fabric, 22.9cm in diameter, to fit the 15.2cm hoop. Using the template provided, trace the words ‘hello spring’ onto white tissue paper. Leaving a narrow border of white around the following; from the floral fabrics cut out one large orange flower including a leaf, one smaller orange flower, one yellow rose, one small yellow flower which includes the le
