About this pattern

This beautiful bag is made entirely from recycled materials. The grey fleck fabric started life as a pair of trousers, the rose print fabric was a skirt, the plastic pearl handles came from an old handbag, and the mother-of-pearlbuttons were sourced at a flea market. Use up old bits and bobs to create a version that’s perfectly tailored to you or your little girl.

Essentials

  • Fabric: cotton, white, fat quarter; floral, fat quarter; wool, grey fleck, 30cm x 60cm
  • Ribbon, velvet, black, 1.5cm wide, 1m
  • Interfacing, fusible, lightweight, 1m
  • Cord, black, 50cm
  • Buttons, mother-of-pearl: white, three; black, three Bag handles
  • Thread, sewing: white; black

    Create a vintage handbag

    1. Download the bag pattern at www.sewmag.co.uk and iron a rectangle of interfacing onto white cotton fabric big enough for two bottom panels. Place the bottom panel template onto the interfaced white cotton and cut two. Interface floral fabric and cut out two more panels.

    2. Iron interfacing onto grey fleck wool and cut out four top pieces. Pin the white cotton panels to two of the these, then machine stitch. Pin the piece
